Named after the Kurdish tale of a half snake half woman with an uncompromising attitude, Rotterdam-based DJ Shahmaran fearlessly combines broken beats, deconstructed club, and bass music. By frequenting record bins while scavenging online platforms for new producers, their digging is an ode to the duality — and blurring — of the traditional and experimental in electronic music.
Connecting with the audience by providing the soundtrack to dance remains crucial to them, and is still an intention they bring along to every space, big or small. Hence their sound embodies both euphoric melodic elements present in more classic house and rave genres and dark basslines and high intensity percussive rhythms. Garage Noord is the ultimate hotbed for what is sure to be an adventurous set.
About the artist
DJ Shahmaran musically grew up in the Rotterdam queer scene, cutting their teeth at the raucous KLAUW club nights. Notably festival debuts like Down The Rabbit Hole festival and Draaimolen, as well as slots at De School, POING, and Garage Noord. It's not for nothing that their playful attitude to mixing and serious ear for the fringes of dance music has received support from the United Identities label and SPIELRAUM.
